On 7 January 2021, the Ministry of Finance proceeded to remit interests, fees, and other charges related to real estate tax and road tax. This in fact moves the deadline for submitting the relevant tax returns for all taxpayers from 1 February to 1 April 2021, without the risk of late fees and penalties. Moreover, the obligation to pay road tax has also been moved – without the risk of sanctions - to 1 April 2021. Real estate tax is due and payable by 1 June 2021. The objective of the decision is to limit personal visits to tax authorities and post offices in view of the continued impact of the Covid-19 pandemic spread.
“In this situation, I consider it necessary to defer the obligation to submit road tax and real estate tax returns by two months to the end of March. This is because the two taxes are often handled in paper form, with active assistance of tax office personnel. And with the continued spread of the coronavirus, preventing people from visiting the relevant authorities is certainly the right thing to do. Especially as real estate tax does not have to be paid before 1 June,” Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová explained.
